Oh sweet songs of summer. It has been a beautifully balmy day today full of walks, scenic woodlands and hill views. I went to an arts event called Burma between the lines yesterday evening and was touched by the evening and the hospitality there. There were performances, poetry recitals, film and photography and I went away feeling moved and sad- "the Burmese are smiling but inside they are crying". It was a positive event with laughs and silences- highlighting the issues in Burma in an engaging way.

I bought a birthday card for a friend from Waterstone's today. The bag had a very true quote on it: "One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other." Emma, by Jane Austen. Remarkable and true. I remember reading something Angela Carter once wrote, "Sisters under the skin we may be, but that doesn't mean we have much in common". Us humans are mysterious creatures.

I have recently been watching the Silent Witness thriller drama series on the BBC, which is about a team of pathologists being involved in crime investigations. I'm experimenting more, or maybe I'm getting bored with my current "work, work, work and study study study", in the accounting profession. I'm also listening to Agatha Christie's (adapted) Crooked House radio episodes (also BBC). Both are entertaining... I also enjoy watching Merlin, well I've always loved magical stories and dramas since I was a young girl. I'm hoping to get some Arthurian legend books out of the library soon. Thanks for fuelling that interest!!
